What to Expect

Floating above the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacan at sunrise is one of the most spectacular experiences near Mexico City. As the sun rises over the Valley of Mexico, dozens of colorful balloons lift off simultaneously, offering aerial views of the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, and the Avenue of the Dead from a perspective that reveals the ancient city's grand scale in a way the ground cannot.

• 6:30-7:00 AM -- Watch the balloon inflation and safety briefing
• 7:00-8:00 AM -- Flight over the pyramids as the sun rises
• 8:00-8:30 AM -- Landing, often followed by a toast with sparkling wine or coffee

Some operators include a subsequent visit to the archaeological site itself, which opens at 9:00 AM.

• Dress in layers -- Early mornings can be cold at 2,200+ meters elevation. The air warms once the sun is up.
• Wear closed-toe shoes -- Required for boarding and landing

• Not for everyone -- If you have a strong fear of heights, consider whether this is right for you. The basket is stable and the flight is smooth, but you are high up with an open view.

Getting There
