Practical Information

  • Budget estimate -- $120-200 USD per day for a family of four (mid-range, including park tickets)
  • Park tickets -- Xcaret and Xel-Ha are expensive (2,000-4,000 MXN per adult) but all-inclusive. Book online in advance for discounts of 10-20%.
  • Transport -- Rent a car for flexibility with kids, or use colectivos for the Playa-Tulum corridor. Car seats are rarely provided by rental companies -- consider bringing your own for young children.
  • Sun safety -- Reef-safe sunscreen is required at cenotes and eco-parks. The tropical sun is strong -- reapply frequently and keep kids hydrated.
  • Best time -- November to April for dry weather and calm seas. Avoid Semana Santa when everything is crowded and expensive.
